Options Chain API

This API allows you to to get option chains data for equities or indices within a given maturity period. To access the data, simply specify the instrument, the month the option expires, and whether you are interested in calls, puts or both. The Option Chain API returns a set of values that includes the count of option pairs and information about each option, such as last price, strike price, bid, ask, type, expiration date, volume and open interest. In addition to real-time options chain data, our API also includes historical data, so you can analyze trends over time and make informed decisions about your options trading strategy.

The Options Chain API provides two distinct endpoints: one live, delivering data almost instantly with a brief 3-second lag for use cases demanding quick updates, yet with usage limitations to avoid overloading the system. There’s also an endpoint for non-live data, which refreshes at 5-minute intervals for the immediate next update and every hour for future data releases.

Options Chains API Data Usage

Option chains are a user-friendly and intuitive way for retail investors to access information. The option quotes are presented in a clear and concise sequence, allowing traders to easily identify the premium associated with a given maturity date and strike price. Additionally, the option chain may display bid-ask quotes or mid-quotes depending on the presentation of the data. Many online brokers and stock trading platforms utilize the option chain format to display real-time or delayed data. The display enables traders to quickly scan for activity, open interest, and price changes. This feature helps traders identify specific options that align with their trading strategy. Furthermore, traders can quickly assess an asset’s trading activity by examining its trading volume and interest by strike price and maturity months. Sorting options may include organizing data by expiration date from soonest to furthest, then refining by strike price from lowest to highest.
